Current Student Representative
Peter Backhaus
I am excited to serve as Student Representative for the chapter and am open to any suggestions you may have for the our group. Please contact me with any ideas for webinars, training sessions, field trips, or any other way you would like to benefit as a student member. This group is here to help you excel with your research and plan for your future career in wetlands, but we can only do that if we know what resources are requested by fellow students.
- Position:
MS / PhD Student at Penn State - About Me:
I am a graduate student in the Department of Geography at Penn State where I work for Dr. Robert Brooks in Riparia. My graduate research focuses on multi-scale wetland functional assessments using remote sensing data. I hope to use remote assessment protocols to inventory long-term functional changes over broad geographic regions, without the need for extensive field surveys. Coming out of the environmental consulting world, I also have an interest in wetland mitigation and am involved in projects including invasive species control, endangered bog turtle studies, and public wetland education.
